The first ever Hijra Festival (trans festival) was held in the city on Friday.
The participants started a march from the Press Club Chowk to the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, carrying placards in favour of their demands. They also chanted slogans, demanding the government to provide them equal rights.
The Hijra Festival participants set up stalls of handicraft and artificial jewellery at ACP and arranged different performances. They held special prayers for the martyrs of Palestine.

“We are here to raise our voice for our due rights,” one of the participants commented.
The organizers also presented their demands.
Kami Sid, one of the organizers, told The Express Tribune that the objectives of the festival was to get recognition of the trans community. Sid said that about 1,500 Hijras from different parts of the country took part in the first ever festival.
