KARACHI:
At least nine people, including five children, were killed in the Kandhkot area of district Kashmore after a rocket exploded on Wednesday.
The explosion took place inside a residence and an investigation is underway, confirmed District Kashmore’s Senior Superintendent of Police Rohail Khoso while speaking to The Express Tribune. He added that a person was also injured in the explosion.
The site of the incident, located within the jurisdiction of the Goghat police station of Kandhkot, was cordoned off by law enforcers. An emergency was also declared in the district hospital.
According to the district administration, the explosion occurred at around 9:00 am in the village Badal Sabzoi, Union Council Malheer, taluka Kandhkot.
The district health officials said the Rapid Response team reached the spot and shifted the victims to the local taluka hospital.
Health officials added that 10 people were brought to the health facility. The injured, identified as 40-year-old Shaista wife of Shah Ali, was discharged after treatment.
Taking notice of the explosion in the remote village of Sindh, the provincial Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir asked provincial police to investigate the matter.
He further inquired why was the rocket present in the village.
Pakistan Peoples Party’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also demanded the government probe the explosion that took the lives of innocent villagers.
The party chairman lamented that the treasure areas of Sindh and Punjab were home to many criminal gangs and urged the government to clear the region from such elements.
